You type in “how to make extra money” on Google and a million results pop up.
There are so many people and sites online sharing all the “get rich quick” schemes and ideas but how do you know which one works – and more importantly – works for you?
Worse, you end up on a site with too many options.
Too many money apps you have to research.
Too many different blog posts outlining where to make extra money.
Too many irrelevant ideas that aren’t even suited to you – oh, I should make money transcribing? Too bad it’s incredibly difficult to get accepted.
I don’t want to waste your time – because your time is valuable.
That’s why I’m sharing the apps that I use to save and make extra money each month.
So you know these are easy and safe apps to download and use, and you don’t have to be accepted to use them!
So, how do I make extra money every month?
I’m going to keep it simple – I don’t have time to manage a million apps and tasks – I need apps and programs that are going to make my life easier. I really focus on 4 apps to save and earn.
The first thing you want to do is sign up for the following apps:
Rakuten and PayPal Honey can be added as browser extensions – download them and install to your preferred browser so whenever you shop, you earn or save money. It’s a great reminder when you’re shopping because I often completely forget when I’m in a hurry to just check out online.
Rakuten will give you coupons but also cash back on purchases. Honey will help you find the best price by hunting down coupons for you – and will even get you cash back on specific items.
Fetch Rewards and Upside are apps that can be downloaded to your phone to help you get money back on regular purchases like groceries and gas.
For Upside, you’ll need to activate rewards before you go get gas, so keep that in mind.
To use Fetch Rewards, you’ll just need to keep your receipts and scan them before throwing away. You can also connect your email and scan any digital receipts as well to get points.
My two most-used apps are Rakuten and Fetch Rewards because I can easily see the money piling up. Honey is harder to quantify because it’s helping me save with coupons, but the Paypal Rewards from Honey are often overlooked – you can get points for shopping here too!
How much money can I make with Rakuten?
Keep this in mind – how much money you get back from Rakuten is going to fluctuate depending on how much you tend to spend. I try not to shop a lot, so my amount might be smaller than what yours could be.
In 2022, by just having the browser extension installed, I received $204.96.
My highest earning bonus was from a car rental with company Sixt, which gave me over 6% cash back.
The cash back amount changes based on the company – so it’s always a good idea to shop around a few websites if possible to get the best price and best rate.
Get $30 from Rakuten
The best part is – if you sign up with my link here, you’ll get $30 free after meeting a certain spend. All you have to do is sign up, find a retailer through the app and spend $30 – you’ll get that $30 back!
How much money can I make with Fetch Rewards?
For 2022, I uploaded 176 receipts and received 17,822 points to use towards gift cards.
The points on Fetch Rewards are not 1:1 – in fact, they are actually worth more.
I have not redeemed my points yet, but currently it looks like I can get at least $50 worth of gift cards for just scanning my receipts. To make this easier for me, I usually stack them all in one place and once a week scan them all. It’s easy money!

How much money can I make with PayPal Honey?
It’s hard to quantify how much you can save with coupons because that coupons and discounts are constantly changing.
I can tell you that I did try something new recently, purchasing a discounted gift card for Lowes Home Improvement from Honey to use on a large purchase – saving me $23, along with the cash back percentage from Rakuten.
I’ve also received $136.92 in reward redemptions just by applying their cash back offers before checkout.

Final thoughts on extra money apps
There are a lot of different apps you can choose to use and download. The four above are just some of my favorites, that I have found most useful. Living with a toddler, things need to be easy! It’s also really nice to see the dollar amount get bigger and bigger over time. There’s nothing nicer than knowing there’s a little extra money coming my way.
I plan on covering more money-saving tips over the next few weeks. I call it Money-Hacking and I plan to help make it easier to understand and get started.
Make sure to leave a comment if you’ve used one of these apps before or if there’s another you prefer! And subscribe to the blog to get notified of any future blog posts!
